The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair. Isa. 61:1-3a
Have you ever been so sad you can feel it physically? So exhausted you think you can’t take it anymore? Me too. I have been in the middle of my chaotic emotions, and I am convinced I can’t take anymore. I don’t see a way out. So I pray. And I whisper Jesus’ name in an intense, needy way. Over and over again.
It works. It comforts me in the moment. It turns out I can move on with my life. The solution may not come right then and there, but eventually, things get better. Isaiah talks about Jesus coming to heal those with a broken heart. He came to give the oil of joy instead of mourning. The sadness you feel when the world is crashing around you, He wants to turn to joy. Can you believe it? Can you live it?
Take the challenge: When you are sad and need Jesus, will you whisper His name with me? That’s my challenge to you this week. Whisper His name and see the change.
In His love,
I learnt to whisper Jesus’ name after having read Unglued by Lysa Terkeurst.
