“The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, and they go down into the inmost body.” Proverbs 26:22 (NKJV)
Is it hard to resist juicy gossip? I can understand why. That being said, it IS important to resist. Why you ask? Picture this: you are offered a piece of a cake. The smell is divine. The chocolate layers, pink frosting and strawberries on top – it’s all too much. You know you have to have it. What harm could one small piece do? You let one small bite slide down your throat. The satisfaction is very present. Until you feel it. With one hand on your belly, you can definitely feel it, and it’s no thrill. “Next time I’ll know better”, you tell yourself. The next time you see that cake, you won’t eat it. But how strong are you really when temptation arises?
What we allow ourselves to be near, could hurt us. Gossip and slander might be a momentary thrill, but what effect will it have on us? Proverbs compare slander with tasty trifles that we swallow. Will you let gossip affect you from the inside? What steps are you willing to take to resist?
In His love,
